  • Governor DeSantis marked Constitution Day on Wednesday, the 238th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution, with the unveiling of a Benjamin Franklin statue in Franklin County. The unveiling was the second in a series of statues being established honoring the country’s founding fathers over the next year in celebration of the country’s 250th birthday. A statue of Thomas Jefferson was unveiled in Jefferson County earlier this year. 
  • A third FAU professor is now known to have been placed on leave following online comments deemed inappropriate by the university in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination. English professor Kate Polak joins art history professor Karen Leader and finance professor Rebel Cole on leave while the university evaluates their comments. 
  • Rain and thunderstorms are likely throughout the day today and highs in the low-to-mid 80’s, which is a bit cooler than usual for this date. A thin layer of Saharan dust is tracking through the Leeward Islands across the central Atlantic acting as a headwind for tropical development. Related... 
  • The National Hurricane Center is tracking three systems in the Atlantic. Tropical Storm Gabrielle is expected to develop into a hurricane in the coming days while turning north towards the mid-Atlantic and is only potentially of concern to Bermuda. A disturbance is developing in the southern Atlantic off the coast of Africa and is being given a 20% chance of development over the next seven days. A second disturbance is located similar to the first and has no chance of developing into a tropical cyclone. 
  • Gas prices rose by another penny per gallon on Wednesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.20 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.35 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.24, it’s $3.23 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $3.23 per gallon.
