  • MLB’s owners unanimously approved the sale of the Rays to a Jacksonville group led by real estate developer Patrick Zalupski. The $1.7 billion deal is expected to close this week. The new ownership is expected to spearhead the construction of a new stadium for the Rays, keeping the team within the greater Tampa Bay region. 
  • The Humane Society of St. Lucie County has announced an upcoming free pet adoption period. From October 1st through the 15th all cats and dogs will have adoption fees waived as part of the Empty Shelters initiative. 
  • Showers are possible throughout the day with highs in the-mid to upper 80’s, typical for this date. A thin plume of Saharan dust is tracking over Puerto Rico and Hispaniola from the Carribean Sea north through the Carribean with a more significant plume just behind it approaching the Leeward Islands and extending across the central Atlantic acting as a headwind for tropical development.   • The National Hurricane Center is tracking three systems in the Atlantic. Major Hurricane Gabrielle is passing east of Bermuda and is heading towards the northern-mid Atlantic. A disturbance in the southern Atlantic following a somewhat similar path to Gabrielle has an 80% chance of developing, while a disturbance crossing over the Leeward Islands has a 50% chance of developing over the next seven days as it passes over Puerto Rico and potentially parts of the Caribbean.  
  • Gas prices fell three cents per gallon on Monday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.07 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.22 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.01, it’s $3.10 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $3.09 per gallon.
