- Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has established a portal for citizens to report calls or threats for violence observed online. The CVE, or Combat Violent Extremism website provides the opportunity for concerned citizens to provide a summary of the potential threat, links to the threat and to upload supporting materials if any exist. The website is myfloridalegal.com/cve. While at the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, Uthemeier also announced the takedown of the largest organized theft of baby formula in Florida history. The perpetrator, Kenneth Joines, stole over $70,000 worth of formula from multiple retailers over the course of greater than 50 thefts. The state will charge the offender, who has multiple prior convictions, using the state’s recently enacted law with tougher penalties for organized retail theft. Joines could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
- Governor DeSantis announced that the state will take up a proposal to deed 2.63 acres of land in Miami-Dade adjacent to the Freedom Tower for the construction of the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library. The proposal will be considered on the 30th at a meeting of the Board of Trustees.
- Boynton Beaches school zone speed cameras will begin enforcing violations in select school zones today. The cameras will automatically issue $100 citations to those traveling 11 mph, or faster, over the speed limit through school zones.
- Showers and thunderstorms are possible throughout the day with highs in the-mid to upper 80’s, typical for this date. A thin plume of Saharan dust is tracking through the Caribbean today with a more significant plume just behind it over the Leeward Islands and extending across the central Atlantic acting as a headwind for tropical development. - The National Hurricane Center is tracking three systems in the Atlantic. Major Hurricane Gabrielle is tracking east across the northern-mid Atlantic prompting hurricane advisories in the Azores. A disturbance in the mid-Atlantic has a 90% chance of developing, posing a potential threat to Bermuda while a disturbance crossing over Puerto Rico today has an 80% chance of developing over as it passes over the Caribbean.
- Gas prices fell four cents per gallon on Tuesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.03 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.18 per gallon, in Martin the average is $2.98, it’s $3.06 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $3.05 per gallon.
