  • Florida House District candidate Emily Gregory is suing the DeSantis administration is seeking to expedite a special election for the House District 87 seat in Palm Beach County. The seat has been vacant since August 18th when the governor tapped Representative Mike Caruso for Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller for Palm Beach County. Without an expedited special election, the district risks not having representation in the upcoming state legislative session which gets underway in January. 
  • The Broward School Board moved closer to closing several public schools amid years of declining enrollment. A plan under consideration would close six public schools throughout the district for the 2026-2027 school year. The district has capacity for 50,000 more students than are currently attending public schools in the district, with an enrollment drop of 10,000 students in the past year alone. The Broward, Miami Dade and Palm Beach County school districts all experienced reduced enrollment this year.  
  • Showers and gusty conditions are possible throughout the day again today, though it’ll likely be sunny and warmer for much of the day. Highs in the mid to upper 80’s, are a little warmer than usual for this date. A thick plume of Saharan dust is tracking over the central Atlantic acting as a headwind for tropical development.   • The National Hurricane Center is tracking two systems. Tropical Storm Jerry is in the southern Atlantic and is expected to track towards the Leeward Islands strengthening to a hurricane over the next day. It will curve north towards the mid-Atlantic. A disturbance in the southwestern Gulf of America has a 10% chance of developing near the Mexican coastline. 
  • Gas prices fell three cents per gallon on Tuesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $2.97 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.14 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.07, it’s $2.99 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $3.00 per gallon.
