Q&A Of The Day – Florida’s Proposed Rule To Ban CRT In Our Schools - Part 2

Q&A Of The Day – Florida’s Proposed Rule To Ban CRT In Our Schools - Part 2

Bottom Line: On May 5th Florida’s Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran announced updated BEST (Benchmark for Excellent Student Thinking) standards. The standards include a new proposed rule that would disallow the use of critical race theory in our schools. This was done based in conjunction with Governor DeSantis’s guidance. Citing the governor at the time: Critical race theory is basically teaching kids to hate our country and to hate each other based on race. It puts race as the most important thing. I want content of character to be the most important thing. However, when it comes to changes in education policy the governor, nor education commissioner, are able to act unilaterally. All proposed educational changes must be ratified by the State Board of Education.

Florida’s Board of Education will meet June 10th and on the agenda is the consideration of the proposed rule change which would ban the use of critical race theory in Florida’s schools. Incidentally the state’s largest teacher's union, the Florida Education Association is lobbying against the rule change - once again showing what the agenda of teacher’s unions is all about. The FEA’s president Andrew Spar had this to say: Florida isn’t going to equip students as critical thinkers by hiding facts. So that’s the counter argument being used.

So as of today, there’s a proposed ban on CRT in Florida’s schools, not a ratified one. The earliest that could occur is June 10th. And it’s then that Governor DeSantis could step in to stop school districts, like Palm Beach County’s, from implementing CRT. It’s clear based on his comments from Friday on the subject...You can put lipstick on a pig, it’s still a pig. If we have to play whack a mole all over the state stopping this critical race theory, we will do it. It’s offensive to the taxpayer that they would be asked to fund critical race theory. That they would ask to fund teaching kids to hate their country and to hate each other. We’ll be taking action. Don’t you worry...that he fully intends to take executive action if needed once he’s able.  To be continued...
