Florida’s Voter Registration By Party – July 2021

Bottom Line: On Tuesday the Florida Division of Elections provided the latest update on Florida’s voter registration. The update reflects all voter registrations as of May 31st.  2021’s trends continued in May and those meant defections continued from both political parties, however not equitably. Democrats took the brunt of it and currently show their lowest voter registration lead over Republicans in Florida’s history.

Remarkably, despite an influx of over a thousand new residents per day, there are a total of 25,415 fewer registered voters today compared to a month ago. That type of phenomenon is most likely to be largely a result of voter rolls being cleaned up during the month (with deceased voters and those who moved out of Florida being removed from rolls) along with a lack of urgency for new voter registrations in an off-election year.

These are the changes in year-to-date voter registration information:

  • DEM: -68,362 (-20,272 from prior month)
  • GOP: -47,431 (-6,851 from prior month)
  • NPA/Other: +48,443 (+1,708 from prior month)

While the most popular choice for newly registered or reregistered voters has been none of the above in 2021, and that remained the case in May, the Democrat defections were once again huge. Democrats lost 13,421 more registered voters than Republicans in Florida in May and have now lost 20,931 more voters than Republicans this year. This resumes the multiyear gains by Republicans relative to Democrats in our state. Most notably, the Democrat’s advantage in voter registrations is, as mentioned in the open, now the lowest in Florida’s history.

The current breakout of registered voters looks like this...

  • DEM: 36.2%
  • GOP: 35.7%
  • NPA/Other: 28.1%

Democrats now retain only a half-point advantage over Republicans in voter registration. This resumption of Republicans gaining political ground supports the notion that Florida’s increasingly moving from being a purple state into red state territory. This development is especially notable if it continues heading into the 2022 election cycle. Until next month...
