SCOTUS Abortion Leak - Top 3 Takeaways – May 4th, 2022

  1. Error on the side of God. Something I’ve been increasingly considerate in attempting to do, is something I would suggest we all make an effort to do. When in doubt error on the side of God. How many times in life have you found yourself thinking of saying something that’s perhaps faith-based, but haven’t? Perhaps it's because of political correctness, or perhaps fear of how someone might react? How many times have you thought of doing something selfless but haven’t because you opted for self-interest instead? In our society we’ve been conditioned to error on the side opposite of our faith. Choosing the opposite of God. I’m not here to preach and this isn’t some random pontification. This is about the issue of the day on back of Monday’s Supreme Court leak. Since the 1973 Roe V. Wade ruling, over 63.5 million abortions have been performed in the United States according to the Guttmacher Institute. That’s the opposite of erroring on the side of God. It’s pretending those fetuses aren’t lives and are merely pumpkins or something like that until they magically transform into life after birth. Science tells us a baby has a heartbeat and can feel pain at 15 weeks (it's been scientifically proven as early as twelve weeks) – hence the Mississippi law that brought about this legal challenge, and specifically Florida’s new law. Isn’t it interesting that following the science is also consistent with erroring on the side of God? And independent of religious considerations, if we’re going to potentially error in one direction or another, should we error on the side of ending a life or should we be...
  2. Erroring on the side of Life? When you step away from the status quo of Roe V Wade for a moment, when you remove the emotions from the argument, when you follow the science, I don’t really see how this is intellectually difficult at all. In fact, most Americans acknowledge this. As I brought you in February 18th's Q&A... The amount of information, and specifically imaging, available today to understand what is happening at every trimester is vastly superior to what it was when the Supreme Court ruled in favor of abortion in 1973. Using that additional information, I think is important. The arguments advanced today, and specifically at 15 weeks, aren’t subjective. It’s based on the development of a fetus. This is a practical example of using information we know now that wasn’t known when the Supreme Court set a 24-week standard in 1973. That’s why it was the basis of the Mississippi law currently before the Supreme Court and that’s what’s behind Florida’s law. Polling shows that only 47% of Americans consider themselves prolife, yet 71% oppose late term abortion. Why? Because somewhere along the way morality and physical reality enters the equation. Current information shows that for practical purposes, anything after 15 weeks should be considered “late-stage”. Right, following science is also consistent with erroring on the side of life. And if you’re in doubt?
  3. Go to the source for information. If you’ve heard me discuss this topic, you’ve likely also heard me say this... Many years ago, I watched videos of abortions in every trimester, or I should say I tried to. I wasn’t able to complete the exercise because by the 2nd trimester – I became emotionally overwhelmed by what was happening and simultaneously nauseous. I believe everyone who has an abortion should see what actually happens at their stage of an abortion prior to the procedure. I guarantee you abortion rates would plummet. Abortion thrives in darkness and with ignorance. For all who want to learn and see but maybe want a somewhat sanitized version of reality...watch the movie Unplanned. Everyone should. And if everyone did, I think this conversation and general debate would look and sound a lot different. A lot in life is complicated. This really doesn’t have to be. If we’re going to error, we should try erroring on the side of God and erroring on the side of life. And if you’re in doubt go to the source for the information yourself. The science and the reality that awaits you with the experience supports the aforementioned.
