Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida. 

  • Gas prices are another two cents per gallon cheaper today. The average statewide price for a gallon of regular unleaded is currently $3.68. In Southeast Florida, prices range from a low of $3.76 per gallon in Broward, to a high of $3.89 in the Palm Beaches. 
  • Florida’s trend for new COVID-19 cases continued to rapidly improve Thursday. Our weekly trend for daily cases has fallen below 8,000 for the first time since May 18th. That’s a decrease of about 1,500 daily cases over a week ago.  
  • Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration has approved rules stating that state resources provided through Medicaid, won’t be used for “gender affirming” procedures. The new rule specifically applies to puberty blockers, hormone therapies and surgical procedures. Governor DeSantis had petitioned the agency to consider this rule change.  
  • The Center for Biological Diversity, Florida Springs Council, Suncoast Waterkeeper and Miami Waterkeeper have petitioned the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to tighten boater safety rules on back of Florida’s Boating Safety Act of 2022. The petition calls for an enhanced boating safety education course focusing on safety for marine life.
