Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida. Gas prices continued lower through the weekend.
- Gas prices dropped three cents per gallon over the weekend. The average price is $3.29 per gallon statewide. In Southeast Florida prices range from a low of $3.31 per gallon in Broward, to an average high of $3.47 per gallon in the Palm Beaches. As a reminder today is the last day Florida’s 25.3 cent per gallon gas tax won’t be collected.
- As we enter the second week of Early Voting, over 2.66 million Floridians have voted either by mail or through early in-person voting. Democrats continue to maintain a lead with vote by mail ballots, while Republicans have voted in larger numbers with early voting. Republicans have outvoted Democrats by over 86,000 votes thus far. Early voting continues from 7am to 7pm in the TriCounty through Sunday.
- Over the weekend FEMA announced expanded transitional sheltering assistance to residents in an additional seven counties, bringing the total to 26 counties. Among those counties are those who suffered severe damage in Monroe and Palm Beach counties.
- While many of Florida’s top spots for paranormal activity are in Northeast Florida, and most specifically St. Augustine, one South Florida spot made Florida Today’s “Haunted Florida” list for Halloween. The Blue Anchor Pub in Delray Beach. In 1865, a Bristish woman by the name of Bertha Starkey was murdered in the original Blue Anchor Pub in London. She was said to haunt the London establishment until much of the original architecture and artifacts were relocated to the Delray Beach location. Bertha is believed to have moved to Delray with those effects and to haunt the pub to this day.
