Florida News That Impacts You – November 14th, 2022

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida. Gas prices continued lower through the weekend.

  • Gas prices remained higher through the weekend. The current average is $3.55 per gallon statewide, nine cents higher than a week ago. In Southeast Florida, prices range from a low of $3.56 per gallon in Miami-Dade, to an average high of $3.70 per gallon in the Palm Beaches.
  • Following Saturday’s extended deadline for the curing of provisional and vote by mail ballots, which was extended due to the impact of Hurricane Nicole, the deadline for election supervisors to report their first unofficial results to the state is noon. Speaking of Nicole...
  • Governor DeSantis has announced all portions of A1A which were damaged by the impact of Nicole have been reopened. Crews began restoration efforts on Thursday to repair damaged portions of the road washed out in localized flooding. The governor also announced all power loss due to Nicole was restored within two days statewide.
  • According to initial estimates, Nicole produced less than $1 billion in damages in Florida, with insured losses of less than $750 million making it one of the least costly hurricanes to hit Florida. Insurance losses were being closely watched by insurers and state officials alike given the already distressed state of Florida’s property insurance market. The state is likely to soon hold a second special session to address the crisis.
