Florida’s the Top State for Hiring
Bottom Line: Good news for Floridians is never something I get tired of reading or reporting, and we’ve got more of it. The US economy is wobbling after having declined for the first half of this year and its overall trajectory remains uncertain with seemingly more high-profile layoffs being announced by the day (it was Amazon yesterday). Meanwhile, Florida’s economy continues to keep on humming, having grown at the 2nd fastest rate in the country this year, which is especially notable given that our state is the third most populous. And while many large tech companies are continuing to shed jobs, that for the most part has thankfully remained outside of our state. Instead, the story here remains one in which we continue to see more job openings than employees looking for work as Florida has achieved one of its lowest unemployment rates on record. And here’s more good news.
A new study from CareerCloud sought to determine the Best & Worst States for Hiring. The study ranked states according to business tax landscape, education, diversity of workforce, job openings, and population growth. In the end Florida was a clear #1 with this summation:
- Florida ranks in among the top 10 states on measures of its tax friendliness toward businesses, its population growth rate, and in diversity. The Sunshine State has the third-largest workforce in the nation and a pro-business government. While costs are rising along with demand, for now Florida also remains a relatively inexpensive place for both real estate and talent when compared to other states of a similar size.
It was an eclectic mix of states behind us rounding out the top five with Washington second, Delaware third, Nevada fourth and Arizona fifth. Good news is good news, and we continue to see a steady flow of it in Florida.
