9 Votes, Revelations & DeSantis Dishing – Top 3 Takeaways – January 11th, 2023
- What a difference nine votes makes. Abolishing the IRS. Eliminating the federal income tax (while introducing a consumption tax), what a difference nine votes in the House of Representatives makes. Yes, Republicans underperformed the historical norms in the midterm elections. Yes, however, flipping nine seats in the House is enough to provide complete legislative checks on Congress and the Biden administration. It’s the difference between Speaker Pelosi and Speaker McCarthy. It’s the difference between the last piece of legislation being voted on in the House being the absurd $1.7 trillion omnibus atrocity and the next piece of legislation considered by the House being the Fair Tax Act. An Act which would replace the entire federal tax code, thus ending the federal income tax, with a national consumption tax (or a tax on purchases). Introduced by Georgia’s Buddy Carter and co-sponsored by Floridians Kat Cammack and Bill Posey, the legislation carries on the tradition of an effort to kill the federal income tax and abolish the IRS first introduced by Congressman John Linder in 1999. Now, let’s say Americans could vote on a referendum to end the federal income tax and eliminate the IRS – replacing it instead with a national sales tax. Do you think it would win? Actually, we do have polling on it from the last time it was taken seriously enough as a national issue to sample – 2008 when several Republican presidential candidates supported it. At the time, Rasmussen did find more Americans in favor of it than the IRS. Now does this have any chance of becoming the law of the land in the United States in this Congress? Of course, not. While we’ll see what happens with the vote in the House, which isn’t a certainty, there’s zero chance of the Senate taking up the legislation, let alone passing it and zero chance of President Biden signing it into law even if they did. But then again with a divided government, that’s true of just about all legislation which will be voted on in either chamber. But what this is, is immediately illustrative of what a difference nine votes makes. We’ve gone from having to hold our butts and our wallets with every piece of tax and spending legislation being considered – left to praying for mercy from Joe Manchin and Kyrstyn Sinema (which came less than half of the time), to Jim Jordan having already started his investigation into the FBI and DOJ and for the first bill to be taken up being one representing the end of the IRS and federal income tax. It had been a long, long two years with Democrats in complete control of the federal government. What a difference nine votes makes. Speaking of DOJ investigations...
- Revelations. Not as in the Book of Revelation, though if we keep running this country the way we have been it might soon be the end of the US’ reign as the world’s leading superpower, if not the Biblical ending of the world. There are two types of DOJ investigations these days. The ones that the potentially corrupt Department of Justice conduct themselves, and the ones conducted by others of the potentially corrupt Department of Justice. Monday’s revelation that just six days before the 2022 Midterm elections classified documents stemming from his time as Vice President within the Obama Administration were recovered, represents quite the revelation indeed. Here we had classified documents, illegally possessed by President Biden at his think tank, the Penn Biden Center, for several years, they’re recovered by federal officials, the DOJ (theoretically) opens an investigation and we’re only just now finding out about this? Donald Trump, as a former president, has classified docs at Mar-a-Lago for months and his house gets raided. Joe Biden as Vice-President has classified docs at this Think Tank for many years and its crickets. Isn’t that cute. But consider this. What exactly is the Penn Biden Center, I mean after all what exactly comes to mind when you hear Joe Biden think tank? According to the University of Pennsylvania, hence the name, Penn Biden Center... The Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement at the University of Pennsylvania is founded on the principle that a democratic, open, secure, tolerant, and interconnected world benefits all Americans. Based in our nation’s capital, the Penn Biden Center engages more of our fellow citizens in shaping this world, while ensuring the gains of global engagement are widely shared. Right, got it. So aside from this mission statement reading like it’s straight out of the Davos, World Economic Forum’s, Great Reset Handbook – the purpose is to share stuff. If you have a Think Tank with a stated purpose to “connect the world”, perhaps that might not be the safest place for classified documents? Might you even suggest it would be perhaps less safe than say Mar-a-Lago? What all of this has shown is what you’ve already known. Joe Biden isn’t just a crappy hypocritical president, he’s blatantly dishonest (the withholding of this information from the American people after the Mar-a-Lago raiding stunt and his repeated condemnations of Trump speak to this). And the DOJ most certainly needs to be investigated. Add this one to the bucket for Jim Jordan. But hey, still no-Trump tweets. Biden really just is so much better, isn’t he? Oh, and speaking of Trump...think this coming public puts a crimp in the DOJ’s plan to charge Trump in its criminal investigation over classified docs? That’s one of the other potential revelations to come out of this. And also, there’s...
- DeSantis dishing...on what he thinks has led to the demise of the Democrat party in Florida. Fresh off of Party Chair Manny Diaz resigning, with a letter which served as an airing of grievances, came Governor DeSantis offering his two cents – which given how fast his stock is rising is already worth three. He had this to say: I think that part of it is I think they have a knee jerk reaction to anything I do, and I think it’s put them in a corner where they’re basically playing to the woke choir, which is a very small minority of people. They’re not addressing issues that really matter to folks, and so they really need a whole course correction and a big overhaul. But show of hands. How many think it’s coming? We need look no further than Washington, where Florida’s Democrats have long been taking their cues, to find an answer. But whatever will be with them. It’s nice to be able to bask in the sanity that is represented within the Free State of Florida.
