Florida’s Updated Voter Registration by Party – February 2023

Florida’s Updated Voter Registration by Party – February 2023

Bottom Line: A little more than two weeks after the Florida Division of Elections provided a fully audited update of where Florida’s voter registration rolls were entering 2023, the state has an update as of where we stood entering February. Did the surge in Republican momentum in Florida end with the new year? Have Florida’s Democrats bottomed out? While it was a record setting cycle for Republicans in Florida last November, they’re continuing to set voter registration records relative to Democrats to start this year as well.

These are the year-to-date voter registration information:

  • DEM: -46,126
  • GOP: -12,771
  • NPA/Other: -7,215

The current breakout of registered voters looks like this...

  • DEM: 33.7%
  • GOP: 36.6%
  • NPA/Other: 29.7%

The first month of an off-election year led to fewer registered voters across the board as those who died or left the state were removed from rolls, without there being a sense of urgency from those relocating here or becoming newly eligible to register. Still, the partisan trends in Florida remain intact, and in fact, the velocity of the decline in Democrat voter rolls only accelerated to begin 2023.

The Republican advantage relative to Democrats now stands at a record 417,309 voters. That includes a net gain for Republicans of 23,355 voters over the past month to start the year. At current pacing, it’s possible that by that by the 2024 election cycle NPA registrations could be threatening to overtake Democrats in the state. Notably, while Republicans won all but five counties last November, there remain thirteen of Florida’s 67 counties in which Democrats retain a registration advantage, including South Florida’s TriCounty.
