Florida News That Impacts You – March 3rd, 2023 

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida. Gas prices continued lower through the weekend.  

  • Gas prices dropped another penny over the past day. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded is $3.24 per gallon – eight cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the price is $3.49 per gallon, a penny lower than yesterday as well, and for the first time this year – isn't the highest price in the state. Monroe is currently the most expensive. 
  • The state’s first assessment of tolls saved by Floridians under the experimental Toll Relief Program are in. In January 1.1 million SunPass users saved a total of $37 million in tolls. The current toll relief program, which runs through December, allows those who pay at least 35 tolls per month to save 50% on those tolls monthly. The Governor’s current proposed budget includes an expansion of the program on an annualized basis.  
  • The state legislator has presented Governor DeSantis with the final two bills passed during the state’s recent special session - legislation overhauling Broward’s Sunshine Water Control District and Franklin County’s Eastpoint Water and Sewer District. The bills codify the recently passed referendums in each county which bring them into compliance with state law.  
  • A study shows Florida has the 4th best roads in the country – with 71% of Florida’s roads found to be in at least “good” condition. The top three states are New Hampshire, Alabama and Georgia. The worst three states for road quality are California, Rhode Island and Nebraska.
