What to Expect with former President Donald Trump’s Arraignment in Miami
Bottom Line: Never before had a current or former President of the United States been indicted until March 30th of this year when a Manhattan Grand jury indicted former President Donald Trump over the handling of “hush money” payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels. A little more than two months later we had our second as this time a South Florida grand jury indicted Trump on 37 charges sought by a special prosecutor stemming from the federal investigation into alleged mishandling of classified documents. Much like the first arraignment, this one will happen on a Tuesday afternoon in a highly secured courthouse. Unlike the first arraignment, this will be in a federal courthouse in Miami. So, what can we expect to happen with the arraignment today?
The federal Wilkie D. Ferguson Courthouse in Miami was chosen as the venue for the arraignment due to its size and perceived greater ability to handle an arraignment of a former president. As for what that will look like and what we can expect today...
- The arraignment is scheduled for 3pm – meaning Donald Trump will likely arrive at the courthouse at approximately 2:30pm
- He’ll be taken into the courthouse via an underground tunnel which aids in security
- Judge Jonathon Goodman will preside over the arraignment
- Judge Aileen Cannon (random selection) will preside over the case
- There will be no cameras in the courtroom
So, while the world will focus its attention on the federal courthouse in Miami this afternoon – there won’t really be much to see. With an underground tunnel and no cameras in the courtroom – there’s likely to be little more than President Trump’s motorcade which is observed coming and going – that is unless he chooses to address the crowd and the media onsite after the arraignment. With a planned announcement tonight from Bedminster – this would seem unlikely – though possible.
