Florida News That Impacts You – October 27th, 2023 

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida.  

  • Two disturbances are active in the tropics. The remnants of Hurricane Tammy are near Bermuda with a 50% chance of redevelopment and a new disturbance has formed in the Caribbean Sea with a 30% chance of development over the next week. It’s expected to drift north towards Cuba and is worth keeping an eye on.  
  • Brightline has launched an official inquiry into where to locate a Treasure Coast station. Public or private landowners in Martin or St. Lucie counties which meet the requirements for the potential building of a station are encouraged to reach out to the company.  
  • Palm Beach Gardens officials have announced a plan to annex 5 zones with the city in an effort officials say will aid in lower property tax rates for residents as the annexed areas would add to the city’s tax base. In turn the city would offer its city’s services for areas proposed under the annexation. Voters in the 5 proposed zones would have to vote to join the city in the March municipal elections. 
  • There are multiple Halloween themed events throughout the community this weekend including Halloween in Delray Beach with Trick or Treating on Atlantic Avenue Saturday along with Kids fest and a Halloween Parade within the city. The Spook-Tacular HallowMarine Celebration is taking place at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center on Saturday from 10am until 5pm. 
  • Gas prices are a penny lower today. Statewide the average price for regular unleaded remains $3.31 per gallon – 6 cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.50 per gallon, which is the 6th highest price in the state.
