  • The state of Florida has now rescued a total of 220 Americans from Haiti, 209 of which are Floridians, amid the collapse of the former Haitian government according to a status update provided by the Florida Division of Emergency Management. 
  • Winners in Palm Beach County’s Uniform Municipal Run-Off Elections... In Lake Worth Beach incumbent Mayor Betty Resch won reelection to a second term. In Wellington the Village 1 Council Seat was won by Amanda Silvestri and the Village 4 Council Seat was won by Maria Antuna. In Pahokee the Commissioner Group 1 race was won by Everett McPherson and the Group 2 Commissioner race was won by Sanquetta Cowan-Williams.  
  • The Palm Beach County School District has been forced to settle a lawsuit filed by charter schools in 2019. In 2018 voters in Palm Beach County approved a 1% sales tax for the Palm Beach County School District, however the district failed to provide any of the proceeds to charter schools. A Judicial Circuit Court ruled that the district unlawfully withheld funds from charter schools, as charter schools are public schools. The settlement will provide nearly $55 million to the district’s charter schools.  
  • Governor DeSantis has appointed Kevin McDonald to the Indian River County School Board. The former business development manager and school board treasurer in Manhattan takes over the position vacated by the resignation of Brian Barefoot in February. 
  • Today will be hot and windy. It’ll be the warmest day of the year thus far with highs in the upper 80’s - approaching 90 in some communities. Temps will be about 11 degrees warmer than usual for this date and wind gusts into the mid 20’s are expected throughout the day. A cool front will move into the area tonight into tomorrow morning bringing much cooler temperatures.  
  • Gas prices dropped another two cents per gallon on Tuesday. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is currently $3.54 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.75 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.62 and in Indian River County the average is $3.61 per gallon.
