- Governor DeSantis has signed the Nicotine Dispensing Devices bill into law. The legislation aims to crack down on flavored vape products marketed to and often used by minors. Effective November 1st nicotine product manufacturers selling within the state will have to follow guidelines from the state’s Division of Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco. The state will develop and maintain a directory for single use vape products known to be targeting minors.
- At a stop at The Els Center of Excellence in Jupiter Governor DeSantis announced a record $2.2 billion would be going from the state budget to the Agency for Persons with Disabilities to help provide social, medical, behavioral and therapeutic services to those with autism and other developmental disabilities. The Els Center specifically will receive $1 million.
- Today is the deadline to participate in the Florida Prepaid College Tuition Plan. The plan includes a 25% price reduction with plans starting as low as $34 per month for a newborn who’s enrolled.
- The Martin County Sheriff's Office is warning residents to beware of a new scam being carried out in the area. Criminals are slashing car tires with the intent to rob the victim once they check on their tires. It’s a tactic used by South American criminal organizations. Officials arrested two natives of Columbia for using this tactic to rob a woman at a Bank of America in Palm City.
- Scattered showers this morning will give way to partly cloudy skies and highs in the low 80’s this afternoon, which is slightly higher than usual for this date. We should have pleasant weather throughout the week.
- Gas prices dropped a penny on Monday. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is currently $3.57 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.76 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.62 and in Indian River County the average is $3.57 per gallon.
