- Florida remains “The Shark Attack Capitol of the World” according to the International Shark Attack File which tracks reported shark attacks around the world. According to the File’s annual shark attack report for 2023, Florida led the way with 16 unprovoked attacks, out of the 69 known unprovoked attacks that occurred during the year (and 120 total reported shark attacks). Surfing was the activity which led to the most unprovoked attacks over the past year.
- Approximately 200 residents attended Florida CFO Jimmy Patronis’ Fixing Problems for Floridians Fair at the Airport Hilton near Palm Beach International on Tuesday. The workshops, which Patronis hosts across the state, are designed to help connect residents with resources and financial services offered by the state. The My Safe Florida Home Program was the most requested service by attendees. The state grant program for home hardening will reopen July 1st.
- The City of Vero Beach has accepted a $140 million proposal to develop the 33 acre “Three Corners” site which includes a vacated power plant, water treatment plant and post office. In a process that’s been nearly six years in the making. Officials approved a developer's plan for a mixed-use site that will include retail space, a hotel and a marina with over 100 slips – including the ability to accept yachts of up to 125 feet.
- It will be hot again today with highs in the low 90’s which is about 8 degrees higher than usual for this date. Temps will continue to moderate towards seasonal norms in the 80’s by the weekend.
- Gas prices were flat over the past day. The average price statewide for regular unleaded is currently $3.50 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.69 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.56 and in Indian River County the average is $3.42 per gallon.
