Florida News That Impacts You – October 21st, 2024 

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida.       

  • Early in person voting gets underway today throughout the state today. In Palm Beach County there are 26 early voting locations that will be open from 7 am to 7 pm daily through Sunday, November 3rd. For residents of Martin County, there are six early voting locations operating from 8 am to 5 pm daily through Saturday, November 2nd and in Indian River County early voting will be held at three locations from 8 am until 4 pm through Saturday, November 2nd. As a reminder you’re able to vote in any early voting location within the county that you’re registered to vote in. You need to bring a government issued photo ID when you go to the polls. 
  • A total of 1,165,746 Floridians have voted via vote by mail ballots with Democrats having out voted Republicans by 71,096 voters entering today’s start to early in person voting.  
  • FEMA has opened Disaster Recovery Centers in Indian River, Martin and St. Lucie Counties to aid victims of the tornadoes spawned during the impact of Hurricane Milton. The Martin County location is at the Martin County Fairgrounds and is operating from 9 am to 7 pm daily. The Indian River location is at the Intergenerational Recreation Center and is open from 8 am to 7 pm daily and the St. Lucie location is at the Havert Fenn Center and is open from 10 am to 7 pm Monday through Saturday and 11 am until 4 pm on Sunday. Impacted residents may visit any center and can apply for assistance at DisasterAssistance.gov.  
  • A mix of clouds and rain throughout the morning with sunny skies and gusty winds throughout the afternoon with highs in the low 80’s - which is a little higher than usual for this date. The National Hurricane Center is tracking one system. Hurricane Oscar has weakened into a tropical storm over Cuba and is expected to remain a tropical storm as it makes its way northeast through the eastern Bahamas and out to sea.  
  • Gas prices dropped a penny over the weekend and are in line with a week ago. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.09 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.26 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.13 and in Indian River County the average is $3.07 per gallon.
