- Flu cases remain low in Florida and across the country ahead of next week’s start to the holiday travel season according to CDC data. The H1N1 virus is currently the most common strain of the flu. Transmission is mostly occurring between children.
- Authorities are warning residents of multiple scams that have popped up in recent days. One scam involves fake pay-to-park instructions. This scam involves fake stickers with QR codes posted to legitimate pay-to-park machines at area lots and garages with the instruction to “pay”. Seven different lots have been found with these stickers in Fort Lauderdale. If the QR code is a sticker as opposed to being part of the sign it's likely a scam.
- Delray Beach Police are warning of a scam targeting residents with claims of fines or missed jury duty. This call-based scam alerts residents of these fake situations and threatens increased fines or potential arrest unless payment is made over the phone. Delray PD advises residents that they don’t call residents about fines or potential arrest warrants. If you come across either of these scams, you’re asked to notify the authorities.
- Partly cloudy skies with cooler temps today. We’ll have highs near 80 - which is a little warmer than usual for this date. The National Hurricane Center‘s forecast is clear. Tropical Storm Sara dissipated over the Yucatan Peninsula this morning and there’s no expected activity for the next seven days as we head down the homestretch of hurricane season.
- Gas prices are about flat over the past week. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.12 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.27 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.17 and in Indian River County the average is $3.15 per gallon.
