- Three Delray Beach firefighters remain hospitalized following Saturday’s collision between a Brightline train and a Delray Beach Fire Rescue truck. The collision left a total of 15 people injured and remains under investigation, though Brightline has stated the Fire-Rescue truck was at fault in the collision.
- On the back of the busy holiday travel season, flu cases are now ‘high’ in Florida according to the CDC’s weekly data. The H1N1 virus is currently the most common strain of the flu. Cases are rising in 62 of Florida’s 67 counties including all South Florida counties and in Indian River. Louisiana and Oregon currently have the highest transmission rates in the country.
- An invasive Burmese python has been intentionally released in western Palm Beach County by researchers – making it the 15th snake to be released in a multi-year tracking program led by the University of Florida, in conjunction with the U.S. Geological Survey, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and the South Florida Water Management District. Under the program, tagged snakes are released into the wild with the hope of leading researchers to breeding grounds for the snakes, for the purpose of understanding their patterns and eliminating them.
- Today’s weather will be improving and warming throughout the day with partly cloudy skies by midday and highs near 80 - which is a little warmer than usual for this date. Cooler air will begin to make its way into our area by midweek.
- Gas prices are higher than a week ago. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.06 per gallon - seven cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.22 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.09 and in Indian River County the average is $3.08 per gallon.
