Sanity is 21 Days Away – Top 3 Takeaways – December 30th, 2024

Sanity is 21 Days Away – Top 3 Takeaways – December 30th, 2024

  1. Sanity is 21 days away. It’s my hope that you and your family had a Merry Christmas, a Happy Hanukkah and are as excited about the future as I am. In the words of C.S. Lewis... There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind. With that said... weeks like last week and to a certain extent this one, are weird. On the one hand you’ve hopefully been having a great time with friends and family and even when it comes to politics you can feel great about what we have to look forward to in the new year. On the other hand, you look at the news cycle and you’re consistently reminded that we’re not there yet. It continues to be brutal. When thinking about the current state of our country and the soon to be transition from the dumpster fire that is the Biden administration to Trump 2.0 - the C.S. Lewis saying comes to mind because it’s about as relevant as ever and the news last week served as a reminder about what we’re ready to leave behind. For example, illegal immigrants that are coddled, provided with taxpayer goodies, and that are enabled to commit horrific acts of violence, a la the burning alive of a woman on a New York subway and the decision by President Biden to commute 37 of the 40 pending federal death sentences...which by the way is worth discussing on its own for the lack of intellectual consistency. That decision sums up the Biden administration in a nutshell. About that... In Biden’s statement when issuing the executive order he said: I’ve dedicated my career to reducing violent crime and ensuring a fair and effective justice system. Which, independent of any other policy failures, is as clear an indication of what an abject failure his political career has been as violent crime, for example, has risen by 4.9% under his administration according to the National Crime Victimization Survey driven almost entirely by crimes committed via illegal immigrants allowed into and allowed to remain in this country due to his administration. This means hundreds of thousands of victims of violent crimes...robberies, rapes and murders...
  2. Were only victims of violent crimes because Joe Biden has been president of the United States. So much for a “fair and effective justice system”. I think the only people in this country that are sick enough to defend the policies that allow for crimes like that to occur are sycophants rooting on the murderer of United Healthcare’s CEO. Only 39% of Americans approve of Biden’s handling of crime and issuance of justice – meaning that even 9% of Kamala Harris voters get it. That’s something. But back to the Biden commutation statement for a moment because it’s an illustrative point of the bigger picture...he continued by saying... Make no mistake: I condemn these murderers, grieve for the victims of their despicable acts, and ache for all the families who have suffered unimaginable and irreparable loss. But guided by my conscience and my experience as a public defender, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Vice President, and now President, I am more convinced than ever that we must stop the use of the death penalty at the federal level. In good conscience, I cannot stand back and let a new administration resume executions that I halted. Ok, there’s actually a case to be made there. The Catholic Church opposes the death penalty and argues that being prolife extends beyond pregnancy and throughout all stages of life – even for the evilest among us (the idea being that God will render judgement when the time comes). You may choose to agree or disagree with the stance, but it is a principled one, rooted in faith, making President Biden’s decision potentially defensible, as he calls himself a practicing Catholic. But just as Biden has never seen an abortion on demand policy that he hasn’t been willing to support, there’s no intellectual consistency with the commutations either. If a faith based “prolife stance” is the argument – there’s no justifiable delineation between 37 of the evilest people in society having their death sentences wiped away and the 3 who didn’t. It’s intellectually and morally inconsistent – which is but the latest example of this playing out in his decisions. Insert major policy failure of the Biden administration here and you’ll see similar themes. Rhetoric that’s completely inconsistent with outcomes... The American Rescue Plan Act (it didn’t exactly rescue this country did it...). The Inflation Reduction Act (it didn’t exactly reduce inflation did it...). The Civil Immigration Enforcement Order (that was the name his day 1 executive order ending all Trump-era border policies including the Remain in Mexico policy, construction of the border wall, and ICE enforcement policies – among others)...that didn’t exactly ‘enforce’ civil immigration and uphold the rule of law in this country did it? Now, to a certain extent this is true for every failed politician ever...after all we’ve never had someone explicitly campaign on a promise of screwing you and doing what they can to ruin our country if elected (although some members of the Squad have come pretty close). Also, while Joe Biden is demonstrably one of the worst presidents in our country’s history, he’s of course far from the first to be a net failure. If the premise of anything is false...anything built on that false premise will fail. Biden claims to have his faith as a guiding moral compass...but then his decisions are consistently inconsistent with it. He claimed he’d improve the quality of life for Americans and then created the worst inflation in forty years and highest levels of crime on record.
  3. Thankfully, in 21 days, what feels like the longest four years of our lives will mercifully come to an end. What won’t, is the bloated, unaccountable and frankly un-American federal bureaucracy left behind. The premise of the bureaucracy is false too. When was the last time that you looked at the federal government and thought...man – that Uncle Sam...what a great guy! If only more things in life ran as well as the federal government? The status quo is the enemy of the people. The federal government as it is currently constructed doesn’t serve the American people any better than Joe Biden’s policies have, and it’s only gotten worse with time. Once upon a time you could at least look at government agencies like the FBI and say at least that one works. Not anymore, it’s time to do things differently and that’s where we’ve arrived. The point where we are going to be doing things differently. Our country was founded on an extremely solid foundation and premise. What we’ve had since the introduction of progressivism, largely starting with the Woodrow Wilson administration over 100 years ago, is the slow and steady eroding of that foundation and the establishment of countless government agencies under a false premise. We’ve been subjected to the boiling frog effect ever since. More agencies, more bureaucracy, less freedom. The good news is that we’re now only 21 days away from a return to sanity but most importantly – a return to what this country was founded upon...limited government influence over our lives allowing all of us an opportunity to achieve our American dreams. DOGE will play a critical role in that effort. More to come....
