- The Coast Guard is on its way to assist South Florida in combating those seeking to illegally enter Florida by boat. The assistance is the result of President Trump’s executive orders pertaining to border security. According to the Coast Guard deployed assets will be patrolling around the southeast U.S. border approaching Florida to deter and prevent a maritime mass migration from Haiti and/or Cuba and the maritime border between the Bahamas and South Florida.
- In advance of Monday’s special state legislative session, which is to primarily focus on aligning state policies to assist with the Trump administration's illegal immigration/deportation plans, Governor DeSantis issued a warning to reluctant legislatures. He said that if the legislature doesn’t follow through with new policy next week it would be: Very hazardous politically as Florida is one of the most impacted states in the country. The governor said maximum participation with the Trump administration's plans is needed. In response to GOP leadership in the House and Senate suggesting that the special session was “premature” DeSantis said: It’s not premature. Now’s the time to act.
- You can expect additional slowdowns along Okeechobee Blvd. in West Palm Beach. A broken sewer pipe on Thursday caused lane closures for westbound traffic near the Kravis Center as crews addressed the issue. The City has stated that traffic will remain reduced to one lane from Rosemary Ave. To Tamarind Ave. for up to two weeks while repairs are made.
- After a cold start today in the 40’s we’ll have cloudy skies with highs in the upper 50’s, which is considerably cooler than usual for this date. After another start in the 40’s tomorrow morning, we’ll begin to see a warming trend set in by Saturday afternoon.
- Gas prices rose six cents per gallon on Thursday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.18 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.32 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.21 and in Indian River County the average is $3.17 per gallon.
