- Florida’s 60-day state legislative session gets underway today in Tallahassee. Governor DeSantis will open the session with his State of the State address which will detail his priorities from his recently outlined Focus on Fiscal Responsibility Budget. Key issues that are expected to be addressed in the session include reforming condo association requirements to aid rising assessments and affordability challenges, property insurance access, various education proposals and gun policies including consideration for open carry.
- FPL is seeking price increases totaling $9 billion over the next four years. The request made to the Florida Public Service Commission cites the need to continue expansion efforts to meet the state’s growing population and also the need to diversify its energy sources for power generation. If accepted by the Florida Public Service Commission, the increase would average 6% for existing customers next year.
- SpaceX is investing an additional $1.8 billion into Florida’s Space Coast which will largely be used for the construction of the SpaceX Gigabay which will be used for finalizing and holding Starship rockets. Construction is set to begin in April. SpaceX also intends to launch its flagship Starship rocket from the Cape by the end of the year. Currently the Starship exclusively launches from its operations in Texas. The expansion is expected to create 600 full-time jobs.
- Cool, cloudy and windy today with highs in the low to mid 70’s – a bit cooler than usual for this date. Warmer weather will move into the area on Wednesday before cooler temps will be back once again by Thursday morning.
- The price of gas fell another three cents per gallon and is at the lowest price of the year. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.03 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.17 per gallon, in Martin the average is $2.98 and in Indian River County the average is $2.98 per gallon.
