  • The University of Miami will play in its first college football championship game following a 31-27 win over Ole Miss in the Fiesta Bowl Thursday night. They’ll play the winner of tonight’s Peach Bowl between Oregon and Indiana in a defacto home game at Hard Rock Stadium. Miami last won a national title in 2001. 
  • The CDC’s latest flu map shows Florida now has a ‘Very High’ rate of flu spreading across the state as we’ve reached what’s typically the peak of flu season. Overall influenza cases have risen by about 33% week over week driven by holiday travel and get togethers.  
  • Martin County reported record use of its Marty bus system in December, the first full month of free bus service offered by the county transportation program that was approved by the county commission in early November. Ridership rose by 35% during the month. Marty has 5 fixed routes across the county with 14 buses and 67 stops. 
  • Sunny skies and warmer than usual temps today with highs in the upper 70’s. 
  • Gas prices fell another two cents per gallon on Thursday and are near five-year lows. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $2.73 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $2.88 per gallon, in Martin the average is $2.73, it’s $2.74 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $2.79 per gallon.
