- Florida’s recently launched Health Florida First initiative, Florida’s answer to the MAHA movement, detected arsenic in over half of candy samples tested by the state. In total, 28 products tested positive for arsenic out of 46 tested. The findings follow a recent discovery by the Florida Department of Health that 24 infant formulas’ tested positive for heavy metals and pesticides. The results of the state’s testing are available at ExposingFoodToxins.com. The National Confectioners Association responded by calling the state’s findings “scare tactics” that are “misguided”.
- Flight delays and cancellations continued throughout the state Monday with 84 total cancellations at Palm Beach International Airport. Air traffic is slowly improving across the country, however problems persist in many locations, and you’re advised to check flight status prior to heading to the airport. Related...
- PBI also announced that 29 new restaurants and shops will be added to the airport at Concourses B and C in addition to the Terminal with a mix of mostly local but also national businesses.
- The Village of Palm Springs has hired Rolando Silva to be the new chief of police. Silva is a retired PBSO captain and attorney. He most recently ran unsuccessfully for the Democrat nomination for state attorney.
- The massive cold front that brought extreme winter weather to much of the U.S. has made its way into our area. High’s will only reach the low-60's in the Palm Beaches with highs topping out in the upper 50’s along parts of the Treasure Coast. The cold front is expected to stay with us for at least the next week and a half with the coldest temperatures since January of 2010 possible this weekend. Cold weather shelters opened Monday night in Indian River and St. Lucie County’s.
- Gas prices fell two cents per gallon on Monday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $2.83 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.01 per gallon, in Martin the average is $2.89, it’s $2.88 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $2.86 per gallon.
