Florida News That Impacts You – February 24th, 2026 

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.     

  • The damage assessment for Florida’s agriculture industry from the recent historic freezes are in. $3.1 billion in estimated losses occurred. Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson called the freezes “one of the most damaging” events for agriculture in the state’s history. By way of comparison, 2022’s devastating Hurricane Ian, resulted in just over $1 billion in agriculture damage. Vegetable, citrus, and horticultural crops suffered the biggest losses. 
  • The winter storm, which resulted in blizzard conditions for the northeast, resulted in flight cancellations across the state yesterday. A total of 125 flights were cancelled at Palm Beach International Airport yesterday, with additional disruptions that are expected today.  
  • A brush fire in Loxahatchee, near the 20-mile bend, was contained by Palm Beach County Fire Rescue after about 90-minutes. Most of Florida currently has an elevated risk of fire conditions, and a burn ban is in place in Palm Beach County through the Treasure Coast due to drought conditions. 
  • Much colder than usual weather again today with temps starting in the upper 30’s and low 40’s and topping out in the low 60’s throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast today. We’ll begin a warming trend on Wednesday. 
  • Gas prices fell a penny per gallon on Monday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $2.86 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.03 per gallon, in Martin the average is $2.87, it’s $2.92 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $2.91 per gallon.
