- Florida’s Attorney General James Uthmeier has launched an investigation, in conjunction with the federal government, into the Cuban government’s attack of a Florida registered speedboat killing four in Cuban waters and leading to six additional boat passengers who were injured. According to the Cuban government, the boaters were Cubans seeking to “infiltrate the island” and conduct “terrorism”. Seven of the ten passengers have been named by the Cuban government – with at least one alleged confession. Uthmeier said the Cuban government can’t be trusted. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said: The majority of the facts being publicly reported are those by the information provided by the Cubans. We will verify that independently as we gather more information, and we’ll be prepared to respond accordingly. We’re going to have our own information on this. We’re going to figure out exactly what happened.
- Many residents showed up to protest the proposed building of a data center dubbed Project Tango in western-Palm Beach County on Wednesday. During a town hall hosted by PBC Mayor Sara Baxter, residents voiced concerns about the proposed construction of the data center that would be built west of Seminole Pratt Whitney Road near Saddle View Elementary and Arden. Officials were unable to complete their presentation and tabled a vote until April saying they’d schedule another town hall.
- A brushfire in St. Lucie County prompted local officials to declare a state of emergency in the county on Wednesday. A blaze of approximately 20 acres broke out near Indian River Estates and was contained by Wednesday night. Separately a wildfire encompassing over 30 acres occurred in Martin County near 4018 SW Foz Brown Road in Indiantown. The fire is contained. Burn bans remain in effect for the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.
- We’ll return to seasonally normal temps today, with temps starting out in the 50’s and topping out in the upper 70’s throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast today. The warming trend will continue as we head into the weekend.
- Gas prices rose another penny per gallon on Wednesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $2.94 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.09 per gallon, in Martin the average is $2.97, it’s $2.97 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $2.97 per gallon.
