- More has been learned of in the curious confrontation between the Cuban military and a Florida registered speedboat earlier this week. The deadly encounter, approximately a mile offshore of Cuba, does appear to have involved ten Cuban exiles who stole the speedboat used in the confrontation from Big Pine Key. Monroe County’s Sheriff’s Office was altered to a stolen vessel fitting the description of the speedboat around the time of the confrontation in Cuban waters. The owner believes a tile worker at his property, Hector Duardy Cruz, who was identified as one of the four killed in confrontation – was responsible for the theft.
- Authorities have busted Apopka resident, Alexander Delgado, in one of the largest crypto currency Ponzi schemes to date. Officials say Delgado defrauded investors out of $328 million between January of 2023 and January of this year. Branded as Goliath Ventures, his firm purported to be a crypto-based investment firm, however, money received was used on four luxury properties, vacations and lifestyle.
- All of Florida is currently experiencing a drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, it’s the first time that’s occurred since the monitor’s record keeping began 27 years ago. Eastern Palm Beach County is in a ‘Severe Drought’ condition, while western communities, all of Martin and St. Lucie counties, and most of Indian River County are experiencing ‘extreme drought’ conditions.
- We’ll have much warmer weather today, with temps starting out in the 60’s and topping out in the low 80’s throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast today. We’ll have a chance for showers and thunderstorms starting this afternoon into Sunday morning.
- Gas prices fell by three cents per gallon on Thursday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $2.91 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.08 per gallon, in Martin the average is $2.95, it’s $2.95 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $2.94 per gallon.
