Florida News That Impacts You – March 4th, 2026

  • The proliferation of Marijuana use has contributed to a rise in impaired driving deaths in Florida. According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, alcohol remains the leading cause of impaired driving crashes and deaths, with marijuana being the most prevalent drug resulting in impaired driving incidents – especially among drivers under 30. Approximately 2,300 drug-confirmed fatalities have occurred on Florida’s roads over the prior five years.  
  • The Florida Department of Transportation is set to close one lane of Okeechobee Blvd. In either the eastbound or westbound direction for nearly two weeks starting next Monday. The lane closure will take place from 9 AM to 3:30 PM Monday-Friday and from 7 AM to 5 PM on Saturday between March 9th and the 21st between Vista Parkway and West Drive.  
  • Most of the area will start in the 70’s and remain in the 70’s throughout the day today with gusty conditions, especially in coastal communities. We can expect similar weather for the rest of the week. 
  • Gas prices rose by another 12 cents per gallon on Tuesday on the back of the war with Iran. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.19 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.31 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.22, it’s $3.21 in St. Lucie, $3.20 in Indian River County.
