Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.

  • Democrat Emily Gregory has flipped Florida’s 87th District defeating Republican Jon Maples in a special election to replace former representative and current Palm Beach County Clerk and Comptroller Mike Caruso. It’s a seat Caruso won by approximately 19-points in each of the prior two elections.
  • The North Group 4 special election with three candidates vying for the seat in North Palm Beach will be heading to a runoff election. Kendra Zellner, who received 34.55% of the vote will face Ron Okolichany or David Norris in an April 7th runoff election. A recount is likely to determine the second candidate in the runoff election as only 12 votes currently separate the two candidates.
  • Amid the continued partial government shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security, wait times improved at Palm Beach International Airport on Tuesday. The average time to clear through security at PBI totaled 11 minutes on Tuesday, which was about eight minutes faster than Monday.
  • The National Hurricane Center has announced its annual improvements to technology and reporting in advance of this year’s hurricane season. The changes include a new operational hurricane track cone map. The new cone will incorporate coastal and inland watches and warnings and use singe shading for the 5-day outlook among other tweaks.
  • It’ll be sunny and warm again today with a high in the low 80’s throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast. We can expect similar weather tomorrow as well for the Palm Beaches. Rain chances increase for parts of the Treasure Coast tonight.
