- Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier issued a warning to NFL Commissioner Roger Godell to drop the “Rooney Rule”, or risk facing prosecution for civil rights violations. The NFL’s rule, which mandates that every NFL interview at least two minority candidates for any head coaching vacancy is deemed to be a violation of Florida’s law. In a letter to the commissioner, Uthemeier issued a deadline of May 1st to comply with Florida’s antidiscrimination law.
- Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League is looking for homes to adopt or foster dogs after taking in 50 dogs of 64 discovered by Palm Beach Animal Care and Control inside of a home on Tuesday from someone who’d taken in strays and became overwhelmed. Each dog has received veterinary exams, has been spayed or neutered, and received any needed medical treatment. While the dogs are readied for adoption, they need to immediately free up space for emergencies with adoptions and foster homes for existing animals.
- Amid the continued partial government shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security, wait times rose at Palm Beach International Airport on Wednesday. The average time to clear through security at PBI totaled nearly 22 minutes, which is about nine minutes longer than usual. The longest wait times were reported during the 9 am hour yesterday.
- It’ll be sunny and warm again today with a high in the low 80’s throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast. We can expect similar weather tomorrow as well. Rain chances increase over the weekend.
- Gas prices were lower by two cents per gallon on Wednesday, dropping for the fourth straight day, with the average price for regular unleaded currently at $3.88 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $4.03 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.93, it’s $3.89 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $3.92 per gallon.
