- Legislators will begin a special legislative session called by Governor DeSantis today. The session is to address congressional redistricting, artificial intelligence consumer protections and expanded school vaccine exemptions. Legislators will hold a special session starting May 12th to address a state budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
- West Palm Beach Mayor Keith James announced the proposed redevelopment of the city’s downtown waterfront is on hold amid backlash by residents. Many of the concerns have involved the potential loss of ER Bradley’s and potential impacts to Woodlawn Cemetery.
- Lake Worth Beach has scrapped plans to build a new fitness court in Bryant Park amid concerns about the cost, maintenance and impact on the view of the waterfront.
- Rivera Beach officials will not renew the contract of City Manager Jonathan Evans when it expires on July 13th. Additionally, officials are exploring options to remove him sooner amid various allegations of improper conduct.
- The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is targeting illegal use of e-bikes within the county amid a rise in illegal e-bike use and crashes involving the use of e-bikes. MSO had been attempting to educate the community about the lawful use of e-bikes however problems have only grown during that time. E-bikes without pedals that travel over 28 mph and/or that are over 750 watts are not legal on roads or sidewalks.
- We’ll have mostly skies and breezy conditions with highs in the low to mid 80’s throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast – typical for this date. Similar and slightly warmer weather is expected tomorrow.
- Gas prices rose significantly on Monday, by 14 cents per gallon to $4.08 per gallon statewide. In Palm Beach County the average price is $4.25 per gallon, in Martin the average is $4.10, it’s $4.08 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $4.09 per gallon.
