Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.   

  • Florida has completed a new Emergency Operations Center in Tallahassee that will serve as the home of Florida’s Division of Emergency Management. The new state-of-the-art facility, which is also twice the size of its predecessor, is protected against winds of up to 200 mph, compared to the previous facility which was only built to protect up to category 3 strength hurricane. 
  • Boca Raton will convert the Holiday Inn on NW 53rd Street into workforce housing. A vote by the city council this week approved the conversion of the 183 hotel rooms into 125 apartments, with 13 ‘affordable’ units and seven ‘workforce’ units. 
  • Luxe Senior Living in Wellington is closing down, leaving residents and families only weeks to move out of the facility before it ceases operations on June 4th. In an April 20th letter provided to residents and families, renovations were cited as a reason for the closure. 
  • The Skate Factory of Vero Beach said they were made aware of a potential “teen takeover” of the facility today. In response, Skate Factory said they were increasing security today and posted “Do not attempt to enter” to those who might participate in an attempted takeover. They also said they’d legally pursue those responsible for damage. 
  • It’ll be warm and humid today with a chance of afternoon showers and highs in the upper 80’s throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast – a little warmer than for this date. Similar weather is expected this weekend. 
  • Gas prices fell by nine cents per gallon to $4.30 statewide on Thursday. In Palm Beach County the average price is $4.47 per gallon, in Martin the average is $4.22, it’s $4.33 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $4.37 per gallon.
