- NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said that the league is compiling with Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier’s subpoena over the league’s “Rooney Rule”. Uthmeier has stated the leagues' mandatory requirement to interview a set number of minorities for various organizational positions is discriminatory and unconstitutional. The subpoena requires NFL officials to attend a meeting at the AG’s office on June 12th.
- In response to recent complaints from residents, Martin County officials voted to include discussion of adding potential quiet zones along the railway through the county. Brightline’s frequent trips through the county are cited by residents as the biggest pain point with dozens of train horns at crossings daily.
- Jupiter Island will begin work on a new ocean rescue facility. Officials approved a plan to construct a new complex for ocean rescue staff, a pavilion and restrooms at Hobe Sound Beach.
- An America 250 Freedom Truck is at the Wellington amphitheater and open for visitors today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The truck is part of the country’s America 250 nationwide tour in advance of this year’s Independence Day celebration at Mount Rushmore. The truck features displays for the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and interactive exhibits.
- It’ll be warm and humid today with highs in the mid to upper 80’s – a little warmer than usual for this date and a chance for showers and thunderstorms throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast. Similar weather is expected for the rest of the week.
- Gas prices rose significantly, by another nine cents per gallon totaling 31 cents over the past two days. The average price for regular unleaded fuel is currently $4.52 per gallon statewide – though prices remain higher locally. In Palm Beach County the average price is $4.67 per gallon, in Martin the average is $4.54, it’s $4.53 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $4.53 per gallon.
