Florida News That Impacts You – May 27th, 2026

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.

  • The United States Supreme Court declined to take up Florida’s lawsuit against California and Washington for CDL issuance practices. The lawsuit was filed in the wake of the fatal death of three people on the turnpike when commercial truck driver Harjinder Singh – an asylum seeker from India who crossed the southern border, made an illegal-U turn. State and federal investigations have shown Singh to have been unlawfully issued a CDL in both states.
  • Florida’s newly drawn congressional map withstood an initial legal challenge as federal Judge Joshua Hawkes upheld the newly drawn map ruling that Florida’s previously drawn map wasn’t shown to be fairer, or more constitutionally sound that the newly drawn map. Democrat-affiliated groups behind the lawsuit have promised to appeal the ruling.
  • Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Wendy Sartory Link is warning of third-party groups sending voter registration mailers posing as official communication from the supervisor’s office. The two organizations known to be doing this are the Voter Participation Center and the Center for Voter Information. Both are left wing non-profits with long histories of deceptive practices.
  • It’ll be warm, mostly sunny, with a chance of a passing shower and a bit gusty today – especially along the coast with highs in the upper 80’s – a little warmer than usual for this date. The chances of rain and thunderstorms increase on Thursday.
  • The price of gas continued lower on Tuesday, falling by five cents per gallon. The average price for regular unleaded fuel is currently $4.27 per gallon statewide – 25 cents lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $4.45 per gallon, in Martin the average is $4.25, it’s $4.32 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $4.33 per gallon.
