Trump Will Only Make a Good Deal & DeSantis w/a Property Tax Plan

Trump Will Only Make a Good Deal & DeSantis is A Man w/a Property Tax Plan – Top 3 Takeaways – May 28th, 2026

Takeaway #1 Trump will only make a good deal

As we continue to do much of what we’ve done over the past three months – wait, watch, and see what with whatever will be Iran...there were multiple reported developments that took place towards a potentially substantive peace deal during the day. This included early reports on Iranian state TV stating that Iran had received the framework for a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. That marked the second consecutive day of reporting from Iran with a decidedly different tune than what we’d heard from their state media previously. Also, importantly, there was nothing from the White House contradicting the initial Iranian reporting (and no related Truth Social posts from President Trump about Iran either). In fact, for over a day the only Truth Social post that specifically mentioned Iran was more about our media than the matter at hand...it was thisIf Iran surrenders, admits their Navy is gone and resting at the bottom of the sea, and their Air Force is no longer with us, and if their entire Military walks out of Tehran, weapons dropped and hands held high, each shouting “I surrender, I surrender” while wildly waving the representative White Flag, and if their entire remaining Leadership signs all necessary “Documents of Surrender,” and admit their defeat to the great power and force of the magnificent U.S.A., The Failing New York Times, The China Street Journal (WSJ!), Corrupt and now Irrelevant CNN, and all other members of the Fake News Media, will headline that Iran had a Masterful and Brilliant Victory over The United States of America, it wasn’t even close. Anyway, later in the morning when Iranian news continued to report on alleged specifics of a potential deal the White House did issue this statement: As President Trump has said, negotiations are proceeding nicely and he has made his redlines clear. President Trump will only make a good deal for the American people, which must ensure that Iran can never have a nuclear weaponAnd a separate White House statement offered this: The United States Military achieved all of the goals laid out for Operation Epic Fury – including weakening Iran’s proxies. Now, Iran is being strangled economically – giving President Trump all the cards as negotiations continue. Achieving all military goals is a notably declarative thing.

Takeaway #2 What’s a good deal?

Trusting Iran state TV to tell the truth is akin to trusting fake news CNN. However, much like CNN and other GSS Newers, they're only likely to report developments if they think it will advance their agenda. This is to say that we have an idea of what Iran’s government thinks is a good deal. Among the details Iranian TV reported yesterday were these: 1) There would be a signed 30-day memorandum of understanding with the intent to use the 30-day window to negotiate a permanent treaty/peace deal. 2) The U.S. military would withdraw from Iran, including an end to the military blockade of Iranian ports. 3) Iran and Oman collaboratively, would manage the Strait of Hormuz restoring commercial traffic to prewar levels during the 30-days. 4) Any final peace deal would be in the form of a binding United National Security Council resolution. Based on the prior days developments we also know that Iran wants access to $24 billion in currently frozen assets. One can also glean from their reporting that legitimacy before the U.N. is an important dynamic to them. Iran’s reporting didn’t make any mention of its nuclear program or it’s enriched uranium – that President Trump has been clear is a red line. So obviously, even if what Iran reported was potentially true – there's far more going on that we want in return for an end to the conflict. Later in the day is when conditions began to devolve once again. An Iran official posted Iran’s red lines on X – they were these: Iran’s “right to enrich uranium, maintain stockpiles and to control the Strait of Hormuz”. In response, following the president’s cabinet meeting, President Trump said: Nobody’s going to control the Strait, or we’ll blow them up. From there we had additional “defense strikes” against Iranian drones in route to the Strait. What this would appear to mean is that we’re still two very big red lines away from any potential Iranian peace deal. Still, despite the developments yesterday, oil (WTI) touched $88 per barrel on Wednesday – the lowest price in five weeks (April 20th) and is only back to $90 per barrel this morning...so that’s something?

Takeaway #3 DeSantis is a man with a property tax plan

On Wednesday, Governor DeSantis called the special session he’d long teased. The special session that’s to commence Monday to address property tax relief. Key to the conversation, as Governor DeSantis had previously called for the elimination of homesteaded property taxes, was his idea of the plan to make it happen. The headline details of the plan look like this. Immediately raise the Homestead exemption cap in Florida to $250,000 – a big jump from the current $50,000 threshold. The rest of the plan calls for the legislature to create a phased schedule for up to $500,000 in tax exempt relief (enough to cover over 90% of Florida’s primary homeowners). There are also imposed limits on how property tax revenue can be spent by local governments, and the governor is calling for a state trust fund to assist with rural communities that might struggle with the transition. So, what he’s proposed isn’t a complete homesteaded property tax elimination plan, but rather one that he thinks can pass the state legislature – which requires a 3/5th's vote to pass...and on the ballot in November, which requires 60% support from voters to pass. More to come...especially as we wade into the special session next week. Stay tuned and I’ll break it all down for you.
