- Governor DeSantis announced the results of three different multi-agency efforts to combat criminal illegal immigrants across the state. Operation Sandhill Sentinel led to the arrests of 250 criminal illegal immigrants including individuals with final orders of removal, repeat immigration violators, and illegal aliens with criminal histories involving domestic violence, drug offenses, DUI, assault, and other violent crimes. Operation Locate resulted in law enforcement identifying more than 400 unaccompanied minors while uncovering cases involving trafficking concerns, missing children, and other high-risk situations. Operation Criminal Return led to the arrests of 230 illegal aliens across the state, including dozens of sexual predators and sex offenders, convicted felons, a convicted drug trafficker, and convicted murderers.
- The Florida legislature is in Tallahassee for a special session to consider Governor DeSantis’s proposed amendment to provide property tax relief, with the potential for eventual homesteaded property tax elimination. The governor’s proposal seeks to initially raise the homestead exception to $250,000 over the next two years with the legislature having the ability to establish a plan for elimination. The proposal requires the support of 3/5’s of Florida’s legislature to pass. If approved by the legislature, it would require 60% support by voters in November.
- Today marks the official start of the Atlantic Hurricane season which runs through November. The National Hurricane Center’s map is clear with no tropical cyclone activity expected over the next week.
- It’ll be hot and overcast for much of the day, with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Today’s highs will be around 90’s – warmer than usual for this date. Similar though slightly cooler weather is expected throughout the week.
- The price of gas continued to significantly fall over the weekend. The average price for regular unleaded fuel is currently $4.04 per gallon statewide – 31 cents lower than a week ago - though prices remain higher locally. In Palm Beach County the average price is $4.26 per gallon, in Martin the average is $4.03, it’s $4.10 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $4.11 per gallon.
