The general election is five weeks from today and we're getting our Election Spotlight stories going with the runoff for Palm Beach County Court Judge in Group 2.
It's the only one on your ballot and it's down to two candidates who are vying for a seat being vacated by the retiring Judge Ted Booras.
Lourdes Casanova is in private practice but began her legal career with the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office.
"I'm excited that I received the most votes in the primary. I'm grateful for that. I'm working hard everyday to earn the votes of the residents of Palm Beach County. I am the most prepared candidate to lead a courtroom based on my range of experiences. My focus my entire career has been on the County Court."
Casanova is the daughter of Cuban immigrants who says that is what has given her a profound appreciation for the constitutional principals of due process, separation of powers and access to courts.
She faces off against Jean Marie Middleton, who is President-Elect of the Palm Beach County Bar Association and serves in a quasi-judicial capacity as a volunteer youth court judge. Here's what Middleton says sets her apart from her opponent.
"The biggest thing is my 38 years of complex trial experience, life experience...having traveled the world, having dealt with people at all levels and walks of life."
Middleton is also a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Civil Mediator.
