Giant Lizards That Eat Small Pets On The Loose In 3 Florida Counties

Researchers from the University of Florida have posted warning signs on the doors of some Palm Beach County residents after sightings of Nile Monitor lizards in the area.

The giant lizards can eat small pets and have been known to have breeding populations in Lee and Miami-Dade Counties, along with the area near Lake Clarke Shores in Palm Beach.

It's believed their populations are growing by people bringing them into neighborhoods as pets and then releasing them.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says the Nile Monitor is not usually aggressive towards humans but will get aggressive if they feel threatened. They have very sharp teeth.

A phone number has been set up by the FWC for anyone who spots one. 1-888-IVE-GOT-1.
