The Palm Beach County School District has named its 2020 Principal of the Year.
Dr. Jesus Armas of Royal Palm Beach High School took the honors Tuesday night.
He credits "all of the great work that so many people have been doing" at the school.
Armas thanked his wife of 40 years, his son and his parents, who emigrated from Cuba in 1961.
He became principal in 2010, at a time when the school had a reputation for being unsafe. Armas focused on security issues, including modifying safety protocols and working with student leaders to foster respectful relationships.
Armas is now eligible for the Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership, given out by the Florida Department of Education. The winner of that award will be announced later this year.
