Now that greyhound racing is outlawed in Florida, some may wonder what happens to the dogs.
An amendment to the state Constitution that bans dog racing took effect in the new year and in some cases those greyhounds are becoming pets.
Former state Representative Pat Rooney Junior is the President of the Palm Beach Kennel Club.
"We take personal pride in making sure that the dogs all go to good homes."
Rooney tells CBS 12 News that he's working with Greyhound Pet Adoption of Southeast Florida with a goal of getting 100 percent of the dogs adopted out to great families.
Jeff Cole is the President of the group.
"When you bring them into your home, they just appreciate everything you do. They are brilliant animals and they make wonderful companions."
Similar organizations are working with other dog tracks around the state.
