Federal Investigators Give Update On Surfside Building Collapse

While the investigation is far from over into what caused a Surfside condo building to collapse nearly two years ago, federal investigators are zeroing in on the pool deck/garage roof.

National Construction Safety Team's Glenn Bell says the original structural design fell well short of building code, plus heavy planters, fill and paving added weight.

The researchers stress these analyses are preliminary.

They'll spend the next six months analyzing about two dozen hypotheses developed to determine what caused the Champlain Towers South to collapse on June 24th, 2021.

Ninety-eight people died in the incident.

A final report, with possible recommendations for the construction of future buildings, is not expected until May of 2025.
