Jupiter's Vice Mayor is stepping down, citing health reasons.

Cheryl Schneider was elected to the Town Council in March of last year, running on a platform of protecting the voice of residents who want to, in her words, "keep Jupiter Jupiter."

Last month, she voted against allowing digging on the Suni Sands site, a Native American archeological site where a developer wants to build a hotel, condos and retail.

Schneider and council member Cameron May wanted to preserve the entire 10 acre site, but the other three council members voted to allow digging on 6 acres.

Mayor Jim Kuretski said on Friday that the council will decide how to fill the vacant seat, likely at the next council meeting on August 17th.

Schneider's term runs through March of 2025.
