(Miami, Fla) - A group of Miami-based artists, cultural workers and the South Florida Coalition for Palestine are leading a rally during Art Basel at the Miami Convention Center today from 3-6 pm.
Organizers say the rally is to break the silence of local and international art institutions on the violence against Palestinian people.
Organizer Monica Uszeroeicz says artists stay silent because those who vocalize support for Palestine face repercussions like canceled shows and lost job opportunities.
The group, Jewish Voice for Peace, accuses Miami-Dade County and the art world of supporting violence against the Palestinian people and is calling for an immediate ceasefire.
She says they also demand that the City of Miami divest from Israeli bonds.
Uszeroeicz says the rally is aimed to uplift Palestinian dignity and justice through poetry and art.
