DeSantis Fills Indian River School Board Seat

Governor Ron DeSantis has announced an appointment to the Indian River County School Board.

Kevin McDonald will fill the seat vacated by the resignation of Brian Barefoot in February.

Barefoot sent the governor his resignation letter, which explained that he was stepping down because he had moved out of the district he had been representing.

But the former school board member soon found out that the address where he had moved was actually still in the same district and tried to rescind the resignation. Barefoot claims he has reached out to DeSantis' office to no avail.

The governor last year released a list of school board members from across the state that he wanted to see defeated at the ballot box this year. Barefoot was among them.

McDonald's appointment fills the seat until after the August election, in which McDonald has filed as a candidate.

McDonald, of Vero Beach, is retired and previously served as a Business Development Manager for Ricoh Americas Corporation. He is the former Chairman, President, and Treasurer of The Geneva School of Manhattan Board of Directors. McDonald earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin.
