A plan is in the works to remake downtown Vero Beach.

City leaders want to draw more visitors to the area and a downtown master plan was approved during first reading last week.

Increasing walkability is one part of the plan, along with additional parking and affordable housing. An increase in density is also being discussed, from 17 units per acre to as many as 60 units per acre, which would have to be approved by voters in the fall.

It's a plan that could take ten years to complete. The city still needs to finalize it.
