Martin County's Sheriff confirms that weekend ICE operations targeted two areas in his community.
John Budensiek tells CBS 12 News that the federal agency was in the Golden Gate neighborhood and Indiantown, but it's not known how many illegal immigrants were rounded up.
"The Sheriff's Office itself was not involved in those pickups and those individuals were not brought here to our jail."
The Sheriff's Office is now helping ICE identify individuals with criminal records who could be targeted for deportation.
The feds have placed a detainer on a Martin County inmate-a Mexican national charged with traffic offenses and multiple DUI convictions. And the sheriff says there are nearly 30 people in his jail with pending charges. They will be deported after serving out their sentences.
As Budensiek says they're not getting a "get out of jail free card."
