(Tallahassee, FL) - Florida leaders differ on cooperation with DHS after the deadly shooting in Minneapolis.

Governor Ron DeSantis says Florida cooperates with DHS and that this policy prevents the deadly chaos seen in Minnesota.

He says the unrest can't happen here because he has mandated that law enforcement work with ICE.

As a result, according to DeSantis, "State and local law enforcement have arrested 20-thousand illegal migrants and handed them over to ICE."

He adds that law enforcement also notifies ICE about migrants exiting the state prison system after completing a sentence in Florida.

Democrats say DeSantis should focus on state affordability rather than dipping his toe in national politics.

But Democrat caucus leader Fentrice Driskell says no one agency should be judge, jury and executioner. She adds that South Florida's large immigrant community could become inflamed and devolve into chaos.

"Even those who want to be tough on immigration do not want to see Americans gunned down in the street." stated Driskell

DeSantis suggests the federal government take his lead and ban sanctuary cities nationwide as he has done in Florida. He adds the government should not have voted to continue funding sanctuary cities.

Meanwhile, President Trump said he's sending his Border Czar Tom Homan to Minnesota today and added he will report directly to him.
